dia de los dead. november 8th, twenty thirteen.

Well, it’s that time of year again… Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead for us non-spanish speaking folk). OK, technically it’s already past…Dia de los Muertos is November 1 and 2.

In Las Cruces, they have a pretty big festival in historic ol’ Mesilla. People get painted, build alters dedicated to lost family members, alters dedicated to lost pets, there is a procession to a cemetery…and of course people selling stuff.

I went out there Friday, November 1. There wasn’t too much going on – people finishing their alters, vendors selling Day of the Dead related merch, and a few people getting their faces painted. I snapped a few shots of the festivities, then walked around Mesilla Plaza a bit and snapped some more.

I didn’t stay long; with the time change, it gets dark pretty quick and I didn’t bring my flash. But I got a few I was happy with…

The above image is really the only one from the festivities that I was happy with… the rest are just from walking around Mesilla Plaza…
